SCIENTIFIC APPROACH IN TRADITIONAL THAI ANTIHYPERTENSIVE HERBAL RECIPES
Abstract
There is increasing attention in the wellness care benefits of herbs and herbal products. Natural remedies to common illnesses affecting the Thai population would be preferable and more cost effective than conventional pharmaceutical products. In Thailand, numerous traditional antihypertensive herbal recipes have been established from ancient times and later cautiously modified based on the wisdom of Traditional Thai Medicine. The bio-active compounds, found in herbs, play an important role in the medication with anincreasing number of studies supporting antihypertensive effects as compared with traditional drugs. The aim of this work was to review the pharmacological evidence of plant extracts from two Traditional Thai Antihypertensive Herbal recipes and also to identify the research needed to develop knowledge in this field.
