Abstract
The eco-friendly synthesis method is the one choice to reduce and eliminate the usage of hazardous substances based on the principle that it uses nontoxic chemicals, non-environmentally benign solvents, and renewable materials. Therefore, the aim of this study was to study the effect of curing temperature and curing time of modified poly vinyl alcohol-graft-lactic acid (PVA-g-LA) hydrogels. The ratio of PVA and LA was 1:1.5 which prepared in aqueous solutions without initiator and catalyst. Then, it was cured at 100 or 120ºC for 120, 150, or 180 min. After that, it was studied the swelling-deswelling behavior in distilled water and acetone to calculate the ratio of the water absorption amount and the ratio of water retention. The finally, they were measured the ratio of moisture content per dry weight by moisture analyzer. We found the curing temperature and curing time study of modified PVA-g-LA hydrogels directly affected to only the swelling-deswelling behavior but not effect on moisture content in their hydrogels. Therefore, we successfully prepared the modified PVA-g-LA hydrogels by eco-friendly synthesis method, and this modified PVA-g-LA hydrogels might be applied for medical and pharmaceutical device for control drug release in the future study.
