Abstract
Paraoxinase 1 (PON1) involves in the detoxification of organophosphate compounds. Polymorphisms of the PON1 gene are responsible for variation in the expression and catalytic activity of PON1. This paper aims to investigate PON1 L55M genotypes in Thai rice farmer who exposed organophosphate. Moreover, PON1 enzyme level was compared between Thai rice farmer whose exposed organophosphate and control subjects. This study revealed that the wild type of PON1 L55M is the majority of agricultural worker who exposed organophosphate (48 out of 50 cases) and serum PON1 level is statistically higher in agricultural worker who exposed organophosphate than in control subjects (p=0.04).
